Do you think the posters studied in class were effective?
Do you think they were fair?
How does this type of propaganda and "social media" compare to today?

Who cares about technology?
Why is Mrs. Wilson always talking about ways technology can help us in the classroom? As a student, do you think using technology in the classroom is important? Why or why not? Try to think past the simple reason of it being "cool."
~Mrs. W
Let's Start Here...
Thanksgiving has passed, and we spent time reflecting on things we were thankful for in our class. Among a million other things, I am thankful for the endless possibilities technology offers. During the second quarter I hope each student will begin their own blog or at least have their own page on a class blog. For now, we will continue with the blog that my students in the past years have worked on and go from there.

Where in the World is Mrs. W's class?
It is safe to say that we have fallen off our BLOG map for a bit, but we are back! Our goal is to post much more frequently for the remainder of the year.
This Friday is Grandparent's Day at our school. What an amazing group of people grandparents are...our own living legacies!
What is something you have learned or hope to learn from your grandparents?

Material World
In class we will take time to look into the book Material World. We talked a little bit about the book today. 16 photographers traveled to 30 nations around the globe and took picture of the families outside their homes, surrounded by ALL of its possessions.
Tonight, look around your bedroom and picture in your mind what your portrait would like if one of the photographers visited you. Explain the mental picture in your head and then explain how you feel about it and what your thoughts are about the possessions that were in your bedroom. What if the photographer took a picture of all the possessions in your entire home? Do you think that you could give up some of the possessions? Do you need all of these possessions?

What is poverty?
The official definition of poverty is:
–noun
–noun
1.
the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor; indigence.
2.
deficiency of necessary or desirable ingredients, qualities, etc.: poverty of the soil.
What is your definition? Is it similar to this? What "part" of poverty seems like the most difficult to you (ex: not knowing when you will have your next meal, not having a home, not having enough clothes to keep you warm)?
Name at least one thing you can do right now to be more appreciative of what you have?

And the blog goes on...
I am so excited for my new class to continue working on this blog. I have enjoyed keeping the blog going so that we can look back at the growth of both the blog and the classes! Your first entry should be about blogging. What do you think of when you first hear the word blog? Are you excited to begin blogging, why or why not? Have you ever used a blog before this year?

Calling Former Students...
I was wondering if any former students were still following the blog? It would be great to hear from you and get an update on how the new school year has started off for you. This could also be a great place to post advice for my current fifth graders:)
Happy New School Year!!

Summer!!
Hi Guys,
I am not sure if many (or any) of you are checking this over the summer...I can only imagine the fun things we could be writing about from your summer adventures (hikes, camps, backyard fun, sports, vacations, etc.) I would love for you to blog about any of those or something else interesting from your summer vacation.
Happy summering,
Mrs. W

What's going on in Mrs. Wilson's class?
Hi Guys!
I hope things are going well and that you are being your best self for Mrs. G. You are so fortunate to have such a great substitute. I can't wait to hear about your last society meeting. Did you enjoy the 6th graders visit? How was the Wax Museum? You can use this space to update me on how you are and what is going on with you. Looking forward to your replies.
The baby and I are adjusting to life at home. He mainly just eats and sleeps for now (which is a little disappointing for his big brother). I will either send or post some pictures for you all to see soon. I am using the advice you all gave at the shower...most of it anyway:).

Poetry
We have spent the last few weeks learning about numerous poetry terms and types of poems. We have read a variety of poems as well as written our own. Please include a poem you have written (be sure to include the type of poem). Don't forget your first name!
Limerick
There once was a boy with no name
All of his work looked the same
Until one shocking day
when he came to say
Hey- that "A" is work I'll claim!
